Black Caps dominate Day Two to take control of Hamilton test

The Black Caps delivered a commanding performance on day two of the third test in Hamilton, dismantling England’s first innings for just 143 in scorching conditions at Seddon Park.

Matt Henry, Will O’Rourke, and Mitchell Santner shared the bowling spoils, decimating England’s batting lineup after their openers made a brisk start.

Kane Williamson continued his stellar form, reaching an unbeaten 50 in New Zealand’s second innings as the hosts built an overall lead of 340 by stumps, finishing at 136 for three. However, England salvaged some hope by claiming two late wickets, including Will Young for 60 after another missed conversion to a century.

New Zealand’s bowlers set the tone early, with Henry removing both England openers in quick succession before O’Rourke’s fiery spell claimed key wickets, including Harry Brook and Joe Root.

Santner capped off the destruction with critical strikes, ensuring England’s innings folded swiftly after a brief resistance from Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes.

Earlier in the day, Santner’s gritty 76 helped New Zealand post 347 in their first innings. Despite losing two late wickets, the Black Caps are well-positioned for a potential victory, with Williamson and Rachin Ravindra resuming the crease on day three.
