The Breakers slipped out of the NBL’s top six after a narrow 99–95 loss to Cairns, despite leading late, as Taipans guard Jack McVeigh delivered a career-best 47 points in his 200th league appearance.
The visitors entered the final quarter ahead but were unable to contain McVeigh down the stretch, with the emotional performance coming just days after the birth of his first child.
The defeat is the Breakers’ second straight loss, undoing momentum built during a recent three-game winning run.
