The Los Angeles Dodgers captured the 2024 World Series title with a thrilling 7-6 comeback win over the New York Yankees, securing a 4-1 series victory at Yankee Stadium.
Down 5-0 by the third inning, the Dodgers took advantage of Yankees’ fielding errors in the fifth, scoring five runs to tie the game.
Teoscar Hernandez credited the bullpen for keeping them in the contest, while Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Hernandez’s timely hits helped out. The title, their second in five years, comes after their initial pandemic-affected 2020 championship.
Yankees star Aaron Judge, along with Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Giancarlo Stanton, had initially given the Yankees a strong start, but the Dodgers’ persistence paid off, as they took the lead with two sacrifice flies in the eighth inning.
Walker Buehler closed the game in the ninth, ensuring victory. Although the spotlight had been on Shohei Ohtani’s debut post-season, he struggled with injuries, recording only two hits.
The Dodgers, however, showcased depth and determination, with Freeman and Betts stepping up to lead a collective effort that saw the injury-hit pitching staff rise to the occasion and deliver the title.
