Anthony Joshua has paid an emotional tribute to his close friends and longtime collaborators Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele after they were killed in a car crash near Lagos, admitting he is struggling to come to terms with their deaths.
The pair died when the vehicle they were travelling in with Joshua and another passenger collided with a stationary truck while the boxer was visiting Nigeria to see family over the new year.
Joshua suffered only minor injuries and later returned to the UK, where he attended a mosque funeral alongside the victims’ families, describing the men as “great” and expressing sympathy for their parents.
Ghami had worked as Joshua’s rehabilitation coach for more than a decade, while Ayodele was a close friend and personal trainer. Nigerian police have charged the driver involved with causing death by dangerous driving, while Joshua continues to receive public support as investigations continue.
