The Warriors returned to second place on the NRL ladder after holding off a determined St George Illawarra Dragons outfit 20-12 at Go Media Stadium in Auckland.
Behind 12-10 at halftime, the home side took the lead early in the second half through Dallin Watene-Zelezniak’s try and then relied on the accurate boot of Chanel Harris-Tavita, who slotted two late penalty goals to secure the win.
The Dragons looked to have reclaimed the lead when Setu Tu crossed after breaking down the right edge, but the try was overturned after officials ruled he had been held before escaping the tackle. Adam Pompey and Alofiana Khan-Pereira also scored for the Warriors, who moved above the Sydney Roosters on points differential and sit just two competition points behind the Penrith Panthers.
