A Chinese national, Shenghua Wen, 42, has been sentenced to eight years in a US prison for conspiring to smuggle firearms, ammunition, and sensitive technology to North Korea in violation of international sanctions.
Wen, who overstayed a US student visa, received about $2 million from North Korean officials to ship weapons and military items from California, filing false export documents to disguise the cargo.
He admitted to knowing the shipments were illegal, including containers of firearms disguised as refrigerators, 60,000 rounds of ammunition, and sensitive detection devices.
