Newly released congressional documents reveal that biographer Michael Wolff repeatedly advised Jeffrey Epstein in 2016 to publicly criticise Donald Trump as a way to “repair” the disgraced financier’s reputation.
In the exchanges, Wolff suggested that taking an anti-Trump stance would give Epstein “political cover,” especially ahead of the release of James Patterson’s book Filthy Rich.
Wolff also sought introductions to Trump-world figures for his own research and queried whether Bill Clinton would confirm he had never visited Epstein’s private island. The two men were still planning to meet in mid-2019, months before Epstein is said to have died in federal custody.
The release follows accusations from the White House that Democrats selectively leaked earlier Epstein emails.
Among the new trove were also materials aimed at boosting Epstein’s online image and a 2011 message in which Epstein referenced Virginia Giuffre—later identified as the “victim” in the email—while noting Trump had never been implicated by her.
The White House emphasised that Giuffre consistently said Trump committed no wrongdoing.
Trump responded by accusing Democrats of using Epstein as a distraction from the government shutdown dispute.
Epstein, previously convicted in 2008, was arrested again in 2019 on trafficking charges before dying in jail; Ghislaine Maxwell remains imprisoned while appealing her conviction.
