Huge anti-government protest in Athens turns violent

Anti-government protests in Greece turned violent as demonstrators clashed with police in Athens during rallies marking the anniversary of the 2023 Tempe train disaster.

Police fired tear gas and stun grenades as hooded youths threw petrol bombs and attempted to breach barricades near parliament.

The nationwide protests, among the largest since Greece’s debt crisis, were fuelled by public outrage over the government’s perceived inaction following the crash, which killed 57 people and exposed severe failures in the country’s transport system.

A general strike has brought the country to a standstill, grounding flights and shutting down public services.

Protesters, led by victims’ families, accuse the government of covering up political responsibility, while officials insist the judiciary is handling the investigation.

  1. The empire would have had ‘their plants with bad intentions’ scattered throughout that protest. Violence is what they want to use as an excuse to take away more freedom and rights from ‘we the people’.
