Tragedy struck Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday as a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School claimed the lives of four individuals and left five others injured.
Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter, a juvenile, was found deceased at the scene.
Police were alerted to the active shooter incident at approximately 10:57 a.m. local time, prompting a swift response to evacuate students and secure the area.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said that while the deceased included the suspect, the identities of the other victims—whether students or staff—were not immediately disclosed. Officers did not discharge their weapons during the response, and the injuries sustained by survivors range from minor to life-threatening.
Local and federal agencies, including the FBI, are actively investigating the incident, with police conducting multiple sweeps of the school to ensure safety.
“This is a day we hope never comes, despite all our training,” a police spokesperson said.
More updates are expected as authorities piece together what transpired.
