The U.S. Senate has advanced a resolution aimed at banning the use of American armed forces against Venezuela without congressional approval.
The measure passed a key vote on Thursday, with 52 senators in favour and 47 opposed, clearing the way for further debate.
The move follows a dramatic US military operation on January 3, when American forces launched an attack on Venezuela, capturing President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and transferring them to New York to face trial. President Donald Trump said the pair would be prosecuted over alleged involvement in “narco-terrorism” and claims they posed a security threat, including to the United States.
In response to the operation, Venezuela requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations, while the country’s Supreme Court temporarily transferred presidential powers to Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. She was formally sworn in as acting president before the National Assembly on January 5.

Trump will exercise his presidential veto.
Finally looking to reign in the mad dog administration. For all their bluster, they know what this means. Endless war, the loss of life on both sides and a probability of WWIII.
