Alfred Helge Hansen and Gaye Carole Hansen, a couple in their early 80s, were found dead on their hobby farm in rural West Auckland.
Their son discovered them and was then attacked by the ram believed to be responsible for their deaths. He managed to subdue the ram by putting it in a headlock, and called for help, leading to the police shooting the animal.
Nephew Dean Burrell told Stuff the son was, ‘attacked by this ram from behind. He managed to get it into a headlock and closed the gate and went back to his mum. The ram busted through the electric fence and attacked them again so he called the cops.’
Family members and neighbours told legacy media of their shock at the tragic incident. The couple were remembered for their kind nature and dedication to the farm.
The incident demonstrates the potential danger posed by hand-reared rams, which can exhibit unpredictable and aggressive behaviour.

Beautifull picture, beautifull animal.
So sad. May they rest in peace. My thoughts are with their son. Very traumatic way to lose one’s beloved parents. ❤️
