Missouri A-G launches investigation into Google for ‘censorship’ of conservative content

Google investigation news

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey announced an investigation into Google, claiming the tech giant manipulates its search engine to suppress conservative viewpoints and influence the democratic process.

“Google has been censoring conservative speech during the most consequential election in our nation’s history,” Bailey posted on X, accusing the company of “waging war on the democratic process.”

Bailey told Fox News he believes Google has minimised information related to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in search results, stirring further conservative backlash against Big Tech.

Bailey’s investigation aligns with prior action Missouri took alongside Louisiana, suing the Biden administration over alleged First Amendment violations by coordinating with tech companies to curb Covid-19 “misinformation.”

Bailey contends this was a “trial run” for broader censorship, warning that Silicon Valley’s influence may expand to target additional speech, including religious content.

Sharing a video from a recent conservative event, he declared, “The remedy for “disfavoured speech” has always been counter-speech, not government censorship.”

In response, a Google spokesperson dismissed Bailey’s allegations as “totally false,” asserting, “Our business rests on showing useful information to everyone – no matter what their political beliefs are.”
