Jihadists claim to take over power in Syria

Syria news

Islamists entered Damascus and declared it “free”, asserting President Bashar Assad has fled the capital.

Jihadists and other anti-government militias have entered Damascus on Saturday, taking control over the Syrian capital. They declared the city to be “free” from President’s Bashar Assad government and claimed he had left the capital.

According to Reuters, Assad, who ruled the Middle East country for almost a quarter of a century, flew out of Damascus on Saturday evening “for an unknown destination”, citing two senior army officers. Just hours earlier, jihadists announced they had gained full control of the key city of Homs after only a day of fighting.

Syrian PM Mohammad al-Jalali has already offered cooperation “with any leadership chosen by the people”, also claiming he remains in his home.

HTS, a group led by a former Al-Qaeda commander and previously known as Jabhat al-Nusra, launched a surprise offensive from the opposition-held province of Idlib in northern Syria just last week. Jihadists have already driven the Syrian Army from the cities of Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and Al-Qusayr at the border with Lebanon.

US-sponsored Free Syrian Army (FSA) has taken control of the ancient site of Palmyra, while the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) also backed by the US have seized Deir ez-Zor in the east of the country.

The Syrian authorities have been embroiled in several localized conflicts since 2011, when various anti-government groups first sought to unseat Assad. Jihadist forces, particularly those receiving military assistance from abroad, have emerged as dominant players among the opposition.

  1. Yay, here comes the next Ukraine for all our tax money to go towards. I have 0% appetite for any of our politicians making this their next money laundering scheme.

Leave those accursed deserts alone, let them have their pile of sand. We don’t want or need it.

Maybe they can recall the millions of their countrymen back from Europe and the UK now that their land is once again “free”.

    Right guys?

  2. Not sure if this is good or bad – perhaps both – and we will see it develop in the coming days.

Islam has never had a reformation like Christianity. What this means is that there is no separation of church and state under Islamic rule. It is no coincidence that in the Middle East Arab Muslim countries you get one of two outcomes: Brutal secular dictatorships like Sadam Hussein or brutal Islamic fascist dictatorships like Iran. You will never get a true democracy that respects all minority religions and opinions because Islam just does not believe in that and, more so, Islam believes that it is superior to all other forms of thinking: “Allah hu Akbar” means “Allah is the greatest” and is an indication of Islamic supremacy.

The brutal secular dictatorship of Bashar al Assad has now been replaced by “rebels” who are of the same mind-set of Al Qaeda which is not good for the Syrian people or the world.

    • Indeed, the whole region is like you describe mark, and this include the sionist ghetto , which is not a democratie but an apartheid state or if you prefer a theocratie, ruled by criminal bibi.

  3. Sounds like an internal as well as external coup, no doubt engineered by the usual suspects. This will only be bad for the Syrian people, if the medieval terrorists take control.

Now, its wait and see, if Russia/Iran can turn this around.

  4. The Syrian people have consistently chosen the secular government of Bashar Assad in independently monitored elections. Take a close look at these “Jihadists”. Very few are actually Syrian. They are predominately mercenaries working (whether they know it or not) for USA/Israel. Yet another “Regime Change’ op a la Libya, Iraq. Neocons see Syria as the door to Iran. I can’t see Iran putting up with this for very long. Gonna be some serious repercussions.
Where is the evidence of “Assad’s brutal regime” ? It’s in the file next to Saddam’s WMDs.
The evil that is MICCIMATT (Military-Industrial-Congressional-Intelligence-Media-Academia-Think-Tanks) is beyond measure.
