Violence erupts at Mexico City protest (Video)

A massive ‘Generation Z’ protest in Mexico City spiraled into violence on Saturday when masked rioters clashed with police outside the presidential palace.

Thousands had marched peacefully from the Angel of Independence to Constitution Square, but tensions escalated when a Black Bloc–style group smashed through security barriers, threw stones, and brawled with officers.

Footage from the scene shows protesters striking police and officers kicking a demonstrator on the ground before authorities deployed tear gas to clear the area. The hour-long skirmish punctuated a demonstration aimed at denouncing corruption, government overreach, and impunity for violent crime, with many chanting against the ruling Morena party.

President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the unrest, insisting that dissent must remain peaceful and reiterating earlier claims that right-wing networks and social-media bots have been fueling the protests.
