New Plymouth Maori ward councillor Te Waka McLeod has accused two people in the public gallery of trying to intimidate her by filming her during a council meeting, a claim both deny.
McLeod interrupted proceedings to ask Debbie Hancock to stop pointing a phone at her, with Mayor Max Brough subsequently warning the pair about disrupting the meeting. Kevin Moratti, head of the Taxpayers’ Union-aligned New Plymouth Ratepayers Alliance, said he was not filming and had raised his phone while messaging.
Hancock also denied filming McLeod. Councillors themselves disagree over what happened, with John Woodward saying he was certain filming occurred, while Kerry Vosseler said she saw nothing untoward.
Filming council meetings is permitted provided it does not disrupt proceedings.

Hmmm could it be the Taxpayers Union affiliates being present was somewhat uncomfortable? Well get used to it, people have a right to know how their money is spent (or wasted). And think of all the legal costs she must have incurred and the screwing around she must have endured trying to bridge this travesty and miscarriage of of justice
