Hundreds of migrants returned from Britain to France under the two countries’ “one in, one out” arrangement have reportedly disappeared from contact with authorities and support organisations, raising further questions about the effectiveness of the scheme.
The agreement, negotiated between London and Paris last year, allows Britain to send back migrants who cross the English Channel irregularly while accepting asylum seekers from France who have legitimate claims and have not previously attempted an unauthorised crossing.
According to The Guardian, citing organisations working with migrants in France, hundreds of people transferred back under the programme can no longer be accounted for. The report said the group included at least 41 people whose ages were disputed and who claimed to be unaccompanied minors.
The UK Home Office rejected that allegation, maintaining that nobody whose age remained under dispute had been returned to France and that those transferred under the agreement were adults.
The scheme has so far operated on a relatively small scale. Around 1,400 migrants have reportedly been returned to France since the agreement took effect last September, compared with approximately 32,000 irregular arrivals in Britain during the period.
Its future is now uncertain, with the arrangement due to expire in October. France is reportedly reluctant to renew the bilateral system and instead wants migration returns incorporated into a broader agreement between Britain and the European Union.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has reportedly argued that France should not carry responsibility for the arrangement alone. Under the proposed alternative, Britain could return migrants to EU countries while accepting eligible migrants from across the 27-member bloc rather than dealing exclusively with France.
As I understood, it was the French who supplied these illegal folk for with rubber boats. At that time it was the UK authorities who supplied these illegal immigrants with cellphones, accommodation in hotels.
It is not unusual for any nation to ignore its own citizens. Even when round the clock knife, machete and rapes were rampant.
Except for those politicians who openly supported the citizens concerns, should be dismissed and prosecuted.
Remember when the English sent people to Australia? So too should these politicians who didn’t speak out should spend the rest of their lives in places like Somali.
I believe the intent these politicians had was violence against its own natural citizens. It was extreme. There were thousands of knife and machete attacks. There were murders, robberies. The violence was off the charts. All this was ignored by the politicians. A true example of just how far our political system has fallen.
Moreover, if anyone spoke up about the problem, they were called racist. The local people were even arrested charged, convicted and sentenced to prison.
The problem was throughout Europe.
What a total and complete nonsense.
