It’s been a busy day for police updates.
Name release – fatal crash, Waimate
Police can now name the man who died in a crash on Old Ferry Road, Waimate on Saturday 16 April.
He was Daryl Paul Hutt, 48, of Timaru.
Police extend their condolences to his family and friends.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Search for overdue Torere fisherman continues
The missing Torere fisherman has not yet been located.
Marine efforts by both Opotiki and Whakatane Coastguards have ceased for the day and at this stage the weather forecast is not looking favourable for tomorrow.
The Air Force is also nearing the completion of their search without success.
An assessment will now be undertaken of the search thus far.
Any further action will be dependant on the assessment and on the weather over the coming days.
Police continue to ask that members of the public who may be on the shoreline from Torere through to Maketu today to be vigilant and report any sighting of the following items of interest: a 100 litre white chilly bin, a red tote tank, wooden oars and a yellow life jacket.
Appeal for information on Te Kuiti fatal crash
Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash near Te Kuiti in March.
Emergency services were alerted to the two vehicle crash on State Highway 3 just north of Te Kuiti at around 8:20pm on 30 March.
One person sadly died at the scene and a second person injured in the crash remains in a stable condition.
The two vehicles involved were a dark coloured Nissan Serena van and a silver Mitsubishi Lancer sedan.
Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone who witnessed either of these vehicles driving along State Highway 3 prior to the crash.
We would also like to speak to anyone who was travelling behind the Mitsubishi as it travelled north prior to the crash.
Police are particularly interested in hearing from the driver of a large white curtain slider truck that was travelling in front of the Nissan van at the time of the crash and then continued driving south.

UPDATE: Fatality following serious crash – Halswell Road/Aidanfield Drive, Christchurch
Police can confirm a person has died following a serious crash at the intersection of Halswell Road and Aidanfield Drive.
The crash, which involved one vehicle and two motorcycles, was reported to Police at 6.45pm.
Sadly, a 22 year old man has died at the scene. Another man has been transported to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries.
The road remains closed while Serious Crash Unit conduct their scene examination. Diversions are in place, motorists are advised to avoid the area and to expect delays.
Incident – Ports of Auckland
Emergency services were at the scene of an incident at the Ports of Auckland where a person has died.
The incident was reported to Police around 9.23am.
WorkSafe NZ has been notified.
