Former Ross Intermediate principal Wayne Kevin Codyre, also known as Wayne Jenkins, has been charged with 52 counts of obtaining by deception, allegedly defrauding more than $548,000 between 2019 and 2023 while leading the Palmerston North school.

Court papers outline sums ranging from under $500 to more than $117,000.

Codyre, once a prominent voice in education and a past president of the Manawatū Principals’ Association, entered no pleas when he appeared in court earlier this month and will return next month.

The Teaching Council has since cancelled his registration, while Ross Intermediate’s board has declined to comment.
