Police are investigating an incident involving the discharge of a firearm in Gore, which left two people injured on Tuesday evening.
Southland Area Commander Inspector Mike Bowman said police were called to the scene just before 8pm following reports that a firearm had been fired. Two individuals were found with injuries, which police believe are not life-threatening.
A cordon has been established in the vicinity of Aparima Street while officers carry out enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police remain at the scene as investigations continue.
Members of the public have been asked to avoid the area while police work is ongoing. Bowman said there is no indication that the incident poses a wider risk to the community.
