Stuart McKinnon, owner of the NXXT Golf Tour, revealed his experience with trans golfer Hailey Davidson, which influenced the LPGA’s decision to ban post-puberty biological males from women’s professional golf.
McKinnon told Fox News that after purchasing the tour in early 2023, he discovered Davidson, a biological male, already competing and dominating events, was eligible under existing LPGA and USGA rules.
Despite adhering to these rules, McKinnon grew increasingly concerned about fairness as Davidson secured multiple first-place finishes, including a win that positioned the golfer for a higher tour exemption. Witnessing Davidson’s powerful swings and on-course dominance, McKinnon believed the competition was skewed, describing his discomfort as both a tour operator and a father of five daughters.
McKinnon’s unease led him to consult scientists and poll players anonymously, finding overwhelming support for a rule change. Ultimately, he banned Davidson in March 2023, marking a pivotal moment in the debate over trans inclusion in women’s sports.
McKinnon said he was surprised by the minimal backlash, contrary to his fears, and said there was broad support for his decision. His experience inspired the LPGA to follow suit, implementing a ban celebrated by many female golfers as a victory for fair competition. McKinnon commended the LPGA’s courage in passing the rule.
The LPGA’s rule change this week bars male players who have gone through male puberty from competing in the LPGA Tour.
