Mick Schumacher, the 26-year-old son of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher, will race in IndyCar next season after signing with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
The former Haas F1 driver, who has spent the past two years competing for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship, will take on a series that includes six oval and superspeedway events such as the iconic Indianapolis 500.
RLL said an oval test is planned soon, noting Schumacher impressed the team during a trial on the Indianapolis road course. Schumacher said he is excited by the “pure and direct racing” style of American motorsport and believes his F1 and endurance experience will strengthen the partnership.
He will join a field that includes New Zealand drivers Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin and Marcus Armstrong when the season begins on 1 March.
