Sinner extends Masters dominance with record-breaking Miami Open run

Jannik Sinner extended his record for the most consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1,000 events to 28 as he advanced to the Miami Open quarter-finals, having already surpassed Novak Djokovic’s previous mark of 24.

The Italian world number two defeated American Alex Michelsen 7-5 7-6 (7-4), recovering from 5-2 down in the second set to book a clash with 19th seed Frances Tiafoe.

Sinner, a four-time Grand Slam winner, has now claimed the past two Masters 1,000 titles in Paris and Indian Wells without dropping a set and remains the only former champion left in the draw, having won the Miami Open in 2024.

He is also set to close the gap on world number one Carlos Alcaraz after the Spaniard’s early exit, with a potential semi-final against Alexander Zverev looming.
