The Wests Tigers are facing yet another crisis, with a power struggle within the club’s ownership group, the Holman Barnes Group (HBG), leading to the suspension of three key directors.
The directors—Tony Andreacchio, Rick Wayde, and David Gilbert—have been banned for a combined 15 years over alleged “behavioural issues” following a disciplinary committee review tied to complaints dating back several years.
The decision has fuelled further division, with Inner West Council Mayor Darcy Byrne calling for the New South Wales government to intervene, describing the situation as “bizarre” and detrimental to the club’s progress.
Amid growing unrest, concerns over the club’s future persist, with fears that governance issues could derail efforts to rebuild on the field.
Former NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell has resumed his role as chairman, while ex-South Sydney CEO Shane Richardson has been brought in on a long-term deal to stabilise operations.
However, the turmoil has sparked petitions from fans demanding an inquiry into HBG’s management and allegations of a push to rebrand the club.
Despite reassurances from HBG leadership about their commitment to the Tigers, the ongoing disputes and poor on-field performance—culminating in the league’s longest finals drought—continue to weigh heavily on the club’s future.
