A New Zealand mother is urging parents to be vigilant on flights after her 18-month-old son’s finger was badly injured on a Singapore Airlines flight from Auckland to Singapore.
The toddler’s finger was crushed and deeply cut when it got caught in the pop-up tray table mechanism, accidentally shut by his older sibling.
The family say in-flight assistance was poorly handled, with one crew member reportedly pouring sugar on the wound and no medical help available upon landing despite prior promises.
The child required emergency treatment in Singapore and is still recovering. The mother is now calling on airlines to provide clearer safety warnings around tray tables.
