Six Nations rebrand draws backlash as fans criticise new ‘woke’ logo

6 Nations news

The Six Nations rugby tournament has unveiled a rebranded logo ahead of the 2025 competition, sparking widespread backlash among fans who have labelled the change “woke”.

The new logo replaces the iconic “six ball” design, which featured the colours of all competing nations, with a minimalist red rugby ball backdrop and “M6N” in orange.

The women’s tournament received a similar update, featuring a purple ball with “W6N.” Organisers described the rebrand as modern and distinctive, aiming to enhance digital and broadcast visibility while honoring the competition’s heritage with the tagline “Since 1883.”

Despite these intentions, fans have expressed frustration, likening the redesign to the controversial Jaguar rebrand and accusing the Six Nations of sacrificing tradition for’wokeness’.

Many comments on social media have criticised the logo as “ugly” and unreflective of the tournament’s historic identity.

While the updated branding is intended to appeal to new audiences, the reaction underscores a divide between preserving tradition and embracing modern design in sports branding. The 2025 Six Nations is set to kick off on January 31, with Ireland entering as reigning champions.
