Person killed in dog attack in Northland

Kaihu dog sttack

A person has died following a dog attack at a property in Kaihu, Northland, after emergency services were called to the State Highway 12 address late Tuesday morning.

Police located the victim deceased at the scene, while council animal management officers secured the dogs and launched an investigation. Authorities say there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The incident has intensified calls for reform of dog control laws, with community voices highlighting ongoing concerns about irresponsible ownership and the number of uncontrolled dogs in public spaces, warning that repeated fatal attacks show lessons are not being learned.

  1. Another genderless, ageless, ‘person’ with no race and no details whatsoever. One minute they were alive and the next minute they became a dead ‘person’. Can we be sure that it was even a human?

  3. We all know what race the dog belongs to.
Funny how they like these colonial weapons F….. hypercritics.
How manty more people will be harmed before we get tough on this crap.
I wouldn’t walk the bush without a rifle now.

  4. Yet another example of utterly useless councils (in this case the Kaipara District Council) doing absolutely nothing about repeated complaints about the dogs

  5. These certain breeds need to be routed-out, then outlawed.
Tire of seeing Staffeys and Staffey-crosses slinging slobber whilst they bark aggressively as the owners give a passing party a wry smile…
These are four-legged weapons, that have replaced machetes, long knives, and the rare hard to come by sawed-off firearms.
Just yesterday on the RNZ news feed (channel 50) a plastic surgeon remarked about the increase in dog attack victims who require surgery after such a dog attack.
I carry a knife at all times that has a legal blade length, and IF my family & I are attacked while out for a walk, I’ll disembowel the attacking dog that breaks free or is roaming without a leash and then comes-in and attacks us!
The Right to Self Defence can take many forms, and when a four-legged weapon is maliciously commanded and used without provocation against me or a family member, the doggie is done, and the owner will be dealt with by LE.
If the owner of the four-legged weapon escalates to assaulting me or a member of my family, they’ll be going elsewhere…
So- the Councils, Animal Rights groups, and the cops need to start getting pro-active and stop the ‘Dangerous Breeds’ from continuing here in this country.

    • Poolice and jurisdiction have made it almost mandatory to take defense in our own hands at any cost.
Happy to go to jail for defending family and home.
