Knicks end 53-year wait with NBA finals triumph

The New York Knicks have claimed their first NBA championship since 1973, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to seal the series 4-1.

Trailing by as many as 16 points and still down by nine early in the final quarter, the Knicks produced another remarkable comeback led by Jalen Brunson, who inspired a decisive late surge. The Spurs, driven by the dominant presence of Victor Wembanyama, controlled large stretches of the contest and repeatedly rebuilt double-digit leads, but New York’s resilience proved decisive.

The victory completes a dramatic turnaround for the franchise after decades of disappointment, with key offseason additions and standout performances throughout the playoffs culminating in a long-awaited championship for one of the NBA’s most storied teams.
