Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher have publicly confirmed their decision to end their marriage after twenty years together.
The couple revealed in a social media post that they jointly filed for divorce last year.
Accompanying the announcement was a photo of the pair dressed in tennis attire, symbolising the end of what they described as a “long tennis match lasting over 20 years.”
In the statement shared on the pair’s Instagram stories and Facebook, they said they were committed to maintaining privacy throughout this transition while stressing their enduring love and dedication to their three children.
The couple’s journey began in 2001 when they first crossed paths at a party in Sydney. Recounting their initial encounter, Baron Cohen fondly recalled bonding with Fisher over shared humour and wit.
Baron Cohen gained widespread recognition in the 1990s for his iconic character Ali G, followed by memorable roles as Borat and Bruno. Fisher, known for her role as Shannon Reed in the Australian soap Home and Away, achieved breakthrough success with her roles in Wedding Crashers and Confessions of a Shopaholic, alongside publishing a series of children’s books.
The news of their divorce comes amidst controversy involving Baron Cohen and Australian actress Rebel Wilson, who made allegations against him in her recent memoir. Baron Cohen’s legal team refuted the claims, citing evidence that they contradicts Wilson’s accusations as a “cynical commercial ploy” to promote her book.
This guy has long been known to be a total and utter scumbag behind the scenes, so it’s hardly surprising.
He was marginally funny as the confused foreigner Borat, but everything else he’s ever done has just been pure cringe.
