Cairns helicopter crash – young kiwi named as deceased pilot

Blake Wilson, a 23-year-old New Zealand pilot, died in a tragic helicopter crash in Cairns, Australia, after flying a helicopter from Cairns Airport into a no-fly zone without authorisation.

The former Palmerston North Boys’ High School student of was described by those who knew him as a “good all-round fella” and “one of the best out there.”

Wilson held a New Zealand commercial helicopter licence but was not authorised to fly in Australia, according to state media.

The incident occurred following a staff celebration at Nautilus Aviation, where a ground crew member “misappropriated” the helicopter. The crash resulted in Wilson’s death, with Queensland Police continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to the accident.

  1. OK…so he was NOT certified / licenced / granted permission to fly in Oz, and then they ‘misappropriate’ (steal???) a chopper…
    & yet, he was a ‘great guy’…
    Tired of the double standards that Freemason imposes on the rest of us…& Palmy North is saturated with the Masonic Old Boy Network, just like Christchurch and Welly!
    It’s also a part of the ‘she’ll be right mate’ attitude, and the problems of Kiwi overconfidence that exceeds limitations.
    Such attitudes have no place in the air or on the water…
