The Government repeatedly offered Labour briefings on upcoming NCEA reforms, but Education Spokeswoman Willow-Jean Prime failed to respond to initial invitations and later formally declined.
It wasn’t until late July—after media reports signalled major changes were imminent—that Prime engaged with Education Minister Erica Stanford, by which point key decisions had already been made.
Documents show Minister Stanford had contacted both Prime and Labour Leader Chris Hipkins over several months to encourage cross-party collaboration, which Hipkins had previously supported as Education Minister.
While Labour has now accepted a briefing, Stanford expressed disappointment at the earlier lack of engagement, noting the public expects bipartisan cooperation on critical education reforms.
Education in NZ has become a joke. This simply sounds like a half hearted effort, to partly reset the standard but don’t expect too much, to change.
Edjucation has become what thej intended it to be: sheeple production.
I believe Erica Stanford does a good job trying to finally improve education in NZ. WJ Prime just does not give a shit.
Oh sure, that’s why National and co have cranked up the interest rates, on loans, for tertiary students.
