New Zealand’s Carlos Ulberg has captured the UFC light-heavyweight title in dramatic fashion, knocking out Jiří Procházka in the first round despite suffering a knee injury early in the fight.
Ulberg appeared badly compromised after landing awkwardly and was forced to hobble around the Octagon, while Procházka chose not to target the injury and instead engaged in a striking exchange he later admitted was a mistake.
Showing no hesitation, Ulberg fired back with power and precision, eventually landing a perfectly timed check left hook that connected flush on Procházka’s jaw, instantly ending the fight.
The knockout rendered any follow-up unnecessary and sealed a remarkable victory, making Ulberg the first fighter from Aotearoa to win the UFC light-heavyweight championship.
