Apple has removed several apps, including ICEBlock and ICE Immigration Alerts, that allowed users to report sightings of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, citing “safety risks” flagged by law enforcement.
The decision followed demands from US Attorney General Pam Bondi, who said the apps endangered ICE agents. Google also took down similar apps from its Play Store.
Developers accused the tech giants of bowing to government pressure and undermining free speech, arguing the tools merely crowdsourced public information.
The removals come amid renewed tensions over immigration enforcement under President Trump’s administration, with US officials claiming such apps have been misused to target agents.
