Person arrested following burglary, Te Aroha

One person has been arrested following a burglary at a commercial premises on Kenrick Street, Te Aroha this morning.

Police were called at around 1.55am after two people broke into the premises and stole an unknown amount of goods and money.

The pair then fled the scene on foot a short time later.

Following an investigation into the incident, an 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with burglary.

He was due to appear in Hamilton District Court today (6 July).

An investigation remains ongoing, and Police are not ruling out further arrests.

Death after serious crash, Cable Street, Wellington

One of the pedestrians injured in a crash on Cable Street in Wellington on 18 June has now died.

Police were called to Cable Street at 12.06am after a report of a crash involving a car and two pedestrians.

The pedestrians were transported to hospital – one in a serious condition, and one critical.

A 23-year-old man was charged in relation to the crash the same day.

Tragically, the pedestrian who had been in a critical condition died in hospital yesterday (5 July).

Further charges for the 23-year-old man are likely.

Update – Greytown hit-and-run

The driver of a vehicle being sought as part of inquiries into the Greytown hit-and-run has been spoken to by Police, and officers now have a different vehicle of interest.

The incident happened on Sunday 24 June between about 6:30-7am, on State Highway 2 between North Street and Ahikōuka Road.

The victim suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle while walking northbound alongside State Highway 2.

Police have previously asked for the driver of a Mistubishi Triton ute, seen on CCTV in the area at the time, to come forward as we believed the driver would have information that could assist us.

‘We can confirm this driver has now come forward and spoken with Police, and we thank him for his assistance.

‘Further Police inquiries have now led us to a different vehicle, and we are working to locate that driver.

‘We are not yet in a position to release the details of that vehicle, but it is now the main focus of our inquiries.’

Police would ask anyone with information about what happened to contact Police on 105, quoting file number 230625/2031.
