McSkimming denies firearms vetting allegations

Jevon McSkimming news

Former Deputy Commissioner Jevon McSkimming denies allegations he interfered in the firearms licensing vetting process, following his resignation last week amid multiple investigations.

While the Independent Police Conduct Authority continues a months-long inquiry, Police Minister Mark Mitchell revealed separate, serious allegations had emerged, prompting McSkimming’s departure before potential dismissal.

Police confirmed the firearms matter is part of a wider ongoing investigation launched in March.

McSkimming, through his lawyer, said he had raised concerns about the vetting system’s application, leading to internal changes.

“Mr McSkimming strongly denies any allegation he acted in any way inappropriately in relation to the vetting process for firearms licenses,” his lawyer said in a statement to legacy media.

“As the overall operational lead on firearms, at one time Mr McSkimming raised issues about how the vetting process was being applied. He took those concerns to the Executive Leadership Team and, following discussion at the ELT, the process was subsequently modified.”

The firearms regulator was established after the Christchurch Mosque attacks in 2019.

Meanwhile, a criminal investigation into alleged objectionable material found on his work computer is also ongoing, subject to interim court suppression orders.

  1. It appears to me they want to dis arm us so we are weak defenseless there is something else going on here.
A country where the inhabitants are armed is VERY hard to overthrow.
Why do they want to make us weak?
Nearly all the crime involving firearms is committed by unlicensed criminals when they catch them they dont punish them enough.
It appears to me they want gun crime to facilitate the removal of all guns. .

  2. I suggest he emigrate to Australia
And find a top notch job there
Which is what he is likely to do
Once all of his real estate portfolios have been wound up
