A public rally is set to take place outside Parliament on Tuesday, November 4, as campaigners call on MPs to stop the government’s proposed Gene Technology Bill.
The protest, organised by GE Honesty, will run from 11:30am to 2pm on the Parliament Steps at 1 Molesworth Street, Wellington.
Organisers say the bill dismantles the safeguards that have long protected New Zealand’s health, environment, and food systems.
“They’ve stripped away the very principles that keep New Zealanders safe,” the group said in a statement shared on social media. “These aren’t optional ‘nice to haves’ — they’re the guardrails that stop powerful interests from rewriting the rules in their favour.”
GE critic Jon Carapiet outlined six key principles that he said must be restored to any future gene technology framework: maintaining New Zealand’s GMO-free advantage, ensuring consumer choice through clear labelling and traceability, applying the precautionary principle to prevent harm, upholding ethical standards in science, keeping regulatory control within New Zealand, and making biotech companies financially liable for any damage they cause.

The Gene Tech Bill removes the foundations that protects our health, environment and food.

“The Gene Tech Bill hands control of our food and farms to private biotech giants,” the group warned. “They’re trading your health for corporate profit — and too many MPs are letting it happen.”
The rally will feature guest speakers and members of Parliament who oppose the legislation. Organizers are urging supporters to contact NZ First MPs, described as the only coalition party still capable of blocking the bill.
“If you have a voice, make sure you use it now,” the group said. “Because you’ll no longer have a say once this bill passes.”

Hangem high
And leave them out to dry
Again, our Parliament today no longer serves the best interests of the population. They detest us. Manipulating and scheming is the MO. Well done on the protesters. It will only be through showing repeatedly our detest for their corporate money handlers agenda that we will achieve self protection.
And voting the SOB’s out of office next year. Same thing all bad public employee’s deserve.
Up tick.
Yep, anyone voting for National, in particular, is letting themselves and the rest of us, down. 97% opposition and they are still trying to forge ahead with this. This is NOT representative government, its government that’s SOLD OUT to foreign interests. If I’m in Wellington, I’ll be attending. Just make sure to cover your face, as these said same shits have allowed their dirty little copper henchmen, to photograph you.
I personally can’t make it there, but would not bother covering my face.
Already got photos of me no doubt from at anti tppa protests and other times. If police want to be be pigs, photographing peaceful protesters, let them be pigs

Also for those who cannot make it to Wellington, there is a local event on the same day and at same time: 4th November at 11:30am outside MP Shane Reti Office, 105 Cameron Street, Whangarei.
Only people doing evil deeds cover their faces. Be proud to stand up against evil with a clear face and clear conscience.
What happened in the USA: Corporations patented the genetic engineered crops.
You could no longer collect and replant your seeds. Had to purchase Monsanto seeds every year.
