A cache of confidential Wellington City Council documents, mistakenly sold with a mayoral desk from the landfill Tip Shop, has exposed decades of sensitive allegations, internal disputes and personal grievances dating from the late 1980s to early 2000s.

According to a report in legacy media (paywalled), among the 2,000 pages are letters detailing sexual harassment claims against a councillor, abusive behaviour towards staff, performance reviews of senior leaders, job applications containing private details, and disputes over payouts.

The files, discovered by a builder and later passed to the media, prompted an official investigation and apology from the council, with the Privacy Commissioner warning of “serious harm” to those affected.

  1. A revelation
Is it any wonder Wellington City Council has been such a dysfunctional entity and drain on tax payers
    Mystery explained
    Internal ructions
    A miniature sick society
    Which is what bullying creates

There will be a very positive response

    • When bullying entwines with sexual harassment, it doesn’t just harm individuals—it warps the social fabric. These microcosms of cruelty become miniature sick societies, where power is misused, silence is enforced, and dignity is eroded. The air thickens with complicity, and the rituals of daily life—school, work, even family—can become distorted liturgies of fear and shame.
It’s like a corrupted soil biomass: what should be a fertile ground for growth becomes toxic, breeding weeds of dominance and decay. And unless someone composts that sickness—names it, confronts it, transmutes it—it festers.
Which is why anybody guilty of assault in the workplace must be removed immediately. They create a climate of fear which can transpire into a workplace accident due to it being capable of clouding rational thinking and judgement. And constitute a danger to that person and to all other workers in the vicinity.
What some employers may do if somebody is convicted of an assault in the workplace is to sack that person in line with their personal contract and to meet their obligations then bring that person back under a different contract to a different part of that company or organization and re-inject them back into the workplace which becomes a crime scene. Which then becomes a manifestation and catalyst for inefficiency poor performance lack of output lack of attendance and as mentioned serious safety concerns.
I know because I was subject to this.

    • It’s also what Rugby, the ‘National Sport’, creates!
It’s what’s allowed to happen in the schools under secretive ‘Darwinian Principle’ of ‘survival of the fittest’…
It’s the networks that entertain gossip-real or otherwise…
It’s the extended sickness in the Councils and District Health Boards…
It’s in the Police and Fire Services…
It’s especially in the NZDF where the threat of Court Martial and future career ruinations are omni-present.
      Just to name a few..!

  2. WCC is a joke. I, like many others, have had to endure years of their incessant, greedy, rates hikes and dog shit service.
